Benefit fraud leads to £500 fine

A man was convicted at Strabane Magistrates’ Court today for fraudulently claiming over £3,000 in benefits.
Graham Curry (35) of Leckpatrick Gardens, Strabane, claimed Universal Credit totalling £3,002 whilst failing to declare an income. He was given a £500 fine plus £15 offender’s levy. The fraud was uncovered following an investigation by the Department for Communities.
Mr Curry is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongly obtained to the Department.
