A woman was convicted at Lisburn Magistrates’ Court today for claiming over £6,000 in benefits she was not entitled to.
Mary McGuigan (58) of Conor Rise, Belfast, claimed Jobseeker’s Allowance, Housing Benefit and Employment and Support Allowance totalling £6,963 while failing to declare employment. She was sentenced to two months imprisonment suspended for one year. The fraud was uncovered following an investigation by the Department for Communities.
She is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Department.
