Summer of major female sport tournaments

Increasing female participation is a key objective of the Sports Matters Strategy and summer 2017 sees a great line up of international competition to inspire future stars.

The highlights of the summer sees two major international championship finals take place in Northern Ireland: 

The UEFA Women’s Under-19 Championship Finals, which run from 8 to 20 August, sees the Northern Ireland team compete against the cream of European national sides. Games take place at the National Stadium at Windsor Park, Shamrock Park, Portadown, Mourneview Park, Lurgan and Ballymena Showgrounds.

The Women’s Rugby World Cup semi-finals and finals will take place in Belfast on 22 August and 26 August respectively. Ireland, who finished in fourth at the 2014 Women’s World Cup in France, will again be up the best female rugby sides in the world, including current champions England. Games are played at Kingspan Stadium and Queen’s University sports complex.
