Historic Environment Division in the Department for Communities’ role as a statutory consultee in the planning process includes ensuring that archaeological investigations take place in advance of development projects when necessary. Most archaeological excavations in Northern Ireland arise through this process. This first edition of the Unearthed bulletin summarises some of the most significant discoveries in development-led archaeology projects in Northern Ireland from 2015 to 2018.
